Making a chicken pie?

Im going to make a chicken pie but im going to use gravy instead of the creamy sauce. Im going to use puffy pastry but do i need to put a layer on the bottom of the tin? If i do, do i have to cook it first before i put the chicken and gravy in? I just don't want the bottom going soggy.
